چکیده

Considering two dimensional (2-D) electron gas as one component plasma (OCP), for the state at the Landau level filling factor 1/3, Laughlin has found a many body wave function with a lower energy than the single particle energy. We plot the ground state energy of this wave function versus different m (angular momentum) by using the modified hypernetted chain technique. Comparing the plot with the one that we have from the charge density wave (CDW), we see that for small m the energy of Laughlin’s state is more negative than that of CDW. But the energy differences are smaller at higher m and hence the fractions become weaker along the series 1/3, 1/5, 1/7.... We obtain the ground state energy for many different fractions of charges. Also we report our calculation of the variation of states in terms of magnetic field.

Quasi Fermi distribution and resonant tunneling of quasiparticles with fractional charges.

We study the resonant tunneling of quasiparticles through an impurity between the edges of a Fractional Quantum Hall sample. We show that the one-particle momentum distribution of fractionally charged edge quasiparticles has a quasi-Fermi character. The density of states near the quasi-Fermi energy at zero temperature is singular due to the statistical interaction of quasiparticles. Another eff...

Characterization of fractional-quantum-Hall-effect quasiparticles

Composite fermions in a partially filled quasi-Landau level may be viewed as quasielectrons of the underlying fractional quantum Hall state, suggesting that a quasielectron is simply a dressed electron, as often is true in other interacting electron systems, and as a result has the same intrinsic charge and exchange statistics as an electron. This paper discusses how this result is reconciled w...

Degeneracy of non-Abelian quantum Hall states on the torus: domain walls and conformal field theory

We analyze the non-Abelian Read–Rezayi quantum Hall states on the torus, where it is natural to employ a mapping of the many-body problem onto a one-dimensional lattice model. On the thin torus—the Tao–Thouless (TT) limit—the interacting many-body problem is exactly solvable. The Read–Rezayi states at filling ν = k/(kM + 2) are known to be exact ground states of a local repulsive k + 1-body int...

Topological Order in the ( 2 + 1 ) D Compact Lattice Super - conductor

– We study topological aspects of a compact lattice superconductor, and show that the characteristic energy splitting, ∆, between almost degenerate ground states, is simply related to a novel order parameter W̃ , which is closely related to large Wilson loops. Using Monte Carlo methods, we study the scaling properties of W̃ close to the deconfining phase transition, and conclude that ∆ ∼ e, where...

Scattering of bunched fractionally charged quasiparticles.

We report the unexpected bunching of Laughlin's quasiparticles, induced by an extremely weak backscattering potential at exceptionally low electron temperatures (T<10 mK), deduced from shot noise measurements. Backscattered charges q=nue, specifically, q=e/3, q=2e/5, and q<3e/7, in the respective filling factors, were measured. For the same settings but at a slightly higher electron temperature...
